These steps will help you prepare for conducting research in our library so you can make the most of our resources. Our Kansas Room Librarian, Elizabeth Hrenchir, is generally available Monday and Wednesday-Friday 9-5 and Tuesday, 11:30-8 to assist you. If you need extensive help or are traveling from from outside of Atchison, it is wise to call ahead and set up an appointment, or to submit a reference request to the Genealogical Society. Please contact us at 913-367-1902 x214, ackgs17@gmail.com, or make an indication on the research request below. The Earl W. Atlakson and Eugene E. Pitts Collections are housed in the Kansas Room. These collections provide an extensive photographic history of Atchison in the first half of the twentieth century and contains prints from Lotus Engraving, negatives from other photographic collections, and a collection of U.S President memorabilia. We also have local newspapers dating from the 1800s available on microfilm.
The Atchison Library also has the library edition of Ancestry.com--this is available on all the public use computers. Just log in with your Atchison Library card, or request a guest pass from the circulation desk.
